When did you first realize that you were ___________? Was it a positive or negative experience?
Question submitted by George.
Hmm. What's my blank? Let's go for the gold, baby! When did I first realize I was GAY? This'll be a condensed version...
Well, let me tell you. I always knew I was different. I remember as a very young man I learned to Wolf Whistle. I first tried it out on an older boy in a half shirt. I hid behind a bush. When the pervert kid at the babysitter was showing all the girls his 'frog' behind the chair, I wanted to see. (Now that I think about it, someone should've reported that kid. We were younger than he was!)
So, I knew I was different. I didn't quite know how. As puberty hit a bit harder I still hadn't quite figured it out. I was very depressed. I couldn't forsee any future for myself. I knew I wouln't want to marry and have kids, but I saw no alternative... I just thought I'd die at thirty. In fact that was the plan. So discovering I was gay gave my life meaning. I knew where I wanted to be. Attending school in San Francisco made me aware of a whole new world!
So I would say that realizing I was gay was a very positive experience. It gave me a future I could live for.
